Kaiterra is thrilled to announce that the Sensedge Go was selected as a winner of the 2024 BUILDINGS Magazine Product Innovation Awards!
Each year, a panel of BUILDINGS editorial staff with expertise in the architecture and building industries gathers together to evaluate thousands of new building materials and solutions brought to market and spotlight those that demonstrate outstanding innovation.
As a recipient of the BUILDINGS Magazine Product Innovation Award this year, the Sensedge Go is recognized for its wireless design, rapid installation, and record-setting battery life, which will help BUILDINGS readers — architects, building owners, facility managers, and product specification influencers — create smart, healthy, and sustainable buildings.
Why Was the Sensedge Go Chosen for the 2024 BUILDINGS Product Innovation Award?
Indoor air quality (IAQ) monitoring is a key component of improving building performance, namely by identifying opportunities to create a healthier indoor environment and workplace experience. Optimizing IAQ is well-known to improve employee health and well-being, which creates a more motivated, focused, productive, and happy workforce.
However, not all IAQ monitors are created equal — many of these solutions are costly and labor-intensive to install and/or maintain, regardless of whether they’re wired or wireless solutions.
Kaiterra designed the Sensedge Go with these challenges in mind, aiming to create an efficient and cost-effective air quality monitor that simplifies healthy building — the Sensedge Go is RESET Grade B certified and part of the Works with WELL catalog.
Altogether, the Sensedge Go delivers greater value to customers in five key ways:
-
It expedites and simplifies installation
The Sensedge Go runs entirely on batteries, eliminating the need for a hardwired power source. Instead of spending substantial time and money knocking down walls to run new cables, buildings can simply attach the Sensedge Go to the wall and it will immediately power on. Plus, the device can stick to many types of surfaces, instead of just drywall — brick, concrete, wood, and even glass! -
It offers versatile wireless connectivity options
Once the Sensedge Go is on the wall and powered on, it will immediately connect to the closest gateway — no special configuration needed. The gateway makes it possible to stay off of the building’s network by offering both cellular and Ethernet connectivity.
The gateway can penetrate three to five floors, transmit data up to 2 km horizontally, and host up to 100 monitors per unit — so you need fewer gateways to cover an entire deployment, which drastically cuts down on total project costs.
-
It has the longest battery life on the market
Powered by our patent-pending Adaptive Sampling™ technology that intelligently evaluates and adapts sampling intervals for all sensors throughout the building, the Sensedge Go achieves up to eight years of battery life.
Even with a fixed sampling rate (that’s three times more than other battery-powered solutions on the market), the Sensedge Go batteries last up to four years. This significantly reduces the number of times you have to replace batteries for your whole deployment, which can be one of the largest pains of maintaining battery-powered air quality monitors.
-
It has the most comprehensive IAQ metrics
The Sensedge Go monitors more IAQ and indoor environmental quality (IEQ) parameters than any other air quality monitor, allowing buildings to not only view data for traditional metrics like CO2 and particulate matter, but also gain a comprehensive view of their indoor environment with parameters like nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone, carbon monoxide (CO), temperature, humidity, air pressure light, and occupancy.
Continuously monitoring 14 IAQ and IEQ parameters in real time, versus just a handful of air quality metrics, achieves two key goals:
• You gain deeper insights into building performance, which helps you make the most informed decisions to optimize your indoor environment and create a healthier, more efficient building.
• You can satisfy more requirements and score more points for leading building certifications like WELL and LEED, which helps lower the overall costs and work needed to get certified. -
Its modular design can future-proof IAQ projects
All IAQ monitors, both wired and wireless, must undergo regular sensor calibrations to avoid any drifts in performance, typically once per year. This process can be a major hassle — it requires either sending out sensors for factory calibration or having an agent come on-site to manually calibrate every sensor.
To make calibrations simple, all Kaiterra air quality monitors are designed with modular, removable sensors. When it comes time to calibrate, all you have to do is hot-swap the old sensor with a new one, which comes with a factory certificate of calibration.
On top of creating a hassle-free calibration process, our modular design also makes it possible to easily upgrade sensor technology (with new parameters, for example). This is a simple way to future-proof your building for evolving building certification requirements, new legislation, etc.
