Kaiterra Sensedge Mini Now Supports Ozone Monitoring

Joe Di Noto

We’re very proud to share that our smart commercial IAQ monitor, the Sensedge Mini, can now support ozone measurement and tracking!

Ozone is a parameter that many have expressed a growing interest in monitoring. The invaluable feedback from our clients, users, and community has guided us in producing our latest sensor module KM-207 which measures ozone and TVOC for the Sensedge Mini. Thanks to our one-of-a-kind modular design, existing users of the Sensedge Mini can add ozone monitoring capability with just a simple module exchange.

For users of our signature monitor, the Sensedge, an ozone sensor module remains a part of the near-term product roadmap. Subscribe to our newsletter to hear about the release first!

Why Ozone?

Ozone is a secondary air pollutant, meaning that most of it comes from chemical reactions between other air pollutants, including volatile organic compounds and nitrogen oxides, in the presence of sunlight.

Typically thought of as an outdoor air pollutant, ozone is becoming an increasing concern indoors as well due to the rise of certain air purification technologies which can produce ozone as a byproduct, and other indoor ozone emission devices, or IOEDs. As a result, monitoring ozone and maintaining safe indoor levels are of paramount concern.

Maintaining Safe Indoor Ozone Levels

To ensure you’re keeping indoor ozone levels in-check, you can follow this three-pronged approach:

  1. Limit the introduction of ambient ozone by keeping doors and operable windows closed on polluted days. Ozone can be removed from ventilated air with activated carbon filters, which absorb ozone from the air passing through the HVAC system.
  2. Eliminate or consolidate indoor sources of ozone. For example, isolate photocopiers and laser printers away from employees in a central location to avoid consistently exposing them to ozone.
  3. Monitor indoor ozone levels to ensure that building occupants are safe at all times.

Earn Points Towards Your Building Certification

Applying for a building certification? Tested and certified by the RESET standard for accuracy, Kaiterra’s commercial air quality monitors, the Sensedge and the Sensedge Mini, are both equipped with PM2.5, TVOC, CO2, temperature, and relative humidity sensors, and are fully compliant with various green and healthy building certifications as well as air quality standards, such as WELL v2, LEED, RESET, the Living Building Challenge, and Fitwel.

For projects that are aiming for the Fitwel Viral Response Module (VRM), the Sensedge Mini, now with ozone monitoring capability, can directly help you comply with the Fitwel Enhanced Indoor Air Quality Testing and Monitoring Protocol in the Fitwel Viral Response Module (VRM). Fitwel VRM requires projects to monitor PM2.5 and CO2, and at least three out of the following parameters: TVOC, relative humidity, ozone, CO, and formaldehyde.
